Fortunately we had just CV closed on our house and we moved that night.įirst thing I would suggest is running a Speedtest using Spectrum’s speedtest site. I asked what the f**k would he have done if he were me. The damn fire department was threatening to fine me or arrest me for shutting it off. Damage for everyone would have been far worse. ![]() I'm a pipefitter/welder and install the feed and valves etc. Fortunately I know how to shut the feed off to the building. 4½" of water on my floor and raining into the apartment below us. Water was coming out of dealing fans electrical outlets etc. They naturally above our apartment working and broke the damn fire sprinkler pipe. 10 years ago the cable techs were in the overhead of the apartment complex wife and lived in. Not unless I have to because always seems like it a problem. I really don't like dealing with support and techs for spectrum or any service provider. ![]() But I'm wondering if it is something I'm doing br spectrum. I'm paying for way faster than those numbers. New router and a new cable from the pole to the house. I have spectrum high speed with similar issues as other dude except my upload is 200kbps and download is 13.3mbps. Cable piggybacks on wiring that may be rather old by now. The larger cost with fiber is running the actual fiber everywhere. ![]() Most fiber to the home is GPON, and I believe it’s usually asymmetrical (2.5Gbps down, 1.25Gbps up) but ISPs using fiber generally offer a symmetric connection to your house. Fiber transceivers are much cheaper (at least for these speeds). Remember that most people have no idea how any of this works, let alone actually test their connections, and upgrading will cost the ISPs lots of money, so they don’t have a ton of incentive to do it.įiber operates totally differently. So it’s not as simple as allocating more or less bandwidth (RF bandwidth) to upload or download.ĭOCSIS 3.1 will improve this, but that means that EVERY modem on the system (and the CMTS) will need to be DOCSIS 3.1 to fully utilize this. Part of this is historic and driven by usage - most people download much more than the upload. Part of this is due to cost - your modem is cheap compared to the CMTS (cable system) and doesn’t have the hardware to send more efficiently. HELP!ĭue to the way the data is sent (modulated) on a cable system, upload is much less “efficient” than download (even more so with DOCSIS 3.1 vs 3.0). TL DR: fast download speeds, TERRIBLY upload speeds. Very confused, and frustrated, so any advice or thoughts would help. Is it possible that the wiring in my building just won't sustain good upload speeds? But then why am I getting great download? Is it possible that Spectrum is throttling it, or with more people working at home that there's some kind of clog? But I have checked with others around me, and all seem to have decent if not great upload speeds. Streaming is my business, and I don't understand why my download speeds are so great, but my upload so severely capped. Spent all morning on the phone trying to talk to someone about this problem, and got hung up on by their customer service/tech support. I just signed up for it, and last night installed their brand new router and modem, making sure the devices have the newest updates. Download speeds are always incredibly fast, but upload speeds vary and are usually terribly slow (between 1-2 mbps!) I'm paying for about 200 mbps down, and 10 mbps up. I live in Los Angeles, and need a good stable upload speed because I create content and stream on Twitch. ![]() u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
